3rd International Conference on Integrative Salmonid Biology
Puerto Varas, April 24 – 27, 2016
It is our great pleasure to invite you to the
3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTEGRATIVE SALMONID BIOLOGY (ICISB 2016) in PUERTO VARAS, CHILE
The ICISB 2016, is an opportunity for the salmonid community to come together to explore, as broadly as possible, the opportunities that will emerge from the availability of the salmonid sequence and state-of-the-art R&D to highlight scientific and productive challenges that will require concerted international efforts in the years to come
The first ICISB was held in Oslo, Norway, June 2012 to mark the release of the draft sequence of the Atlantic salmon. Two hundred scientists and industry representatives from around the world discussed the opportunities and challenges in the valorization of this resource. The 2nd ICISB was held in Vancouver, Canada, June 2014 to provide an initial forum to discuss the utilization of the reference sequence for R&D to support the long-term sustainability of the aquaculture industry, wild salmon fisheries and the environment.
ICISB 2016 Meeting Remarks
ICISB 2016 will offer a high quality meeting with prominent key-note speakers, oral presentations and posters from academia and industry, which will offer important insights into the latest knowledge and challenges in the following areas:
- Productive and biological implications of the Atlantic salmon genome
- Genomes of related salmonid species
- Breeding, QTL mapping and genomic selection & traceability
- Physiology, nutrition and interaction with pathogens
- Environmental and conservation biology of wild salmonids
- Life history, molecular ecology and evolution of salmonids
We will also generate a key space to establish innovative research ideas and collaborations that can benefit the salmonid community and create economic value through sustainable production.
ICISB 2016, also will to promote the participation of young researchers with a specific section in the program for that.
The ICISB conference was initiated by and has been made possible through the support of the International Cooperation to Sequence the Atlantic Salmon Genome (ICSASG).
International Cooperation to Sequence the Atlantic Salmon Genome (ICSASG)
The Atlantic salmon as a species is an integral part of the social and economic fabric of many coastal countries worldwide. A better scientific understanding of this species and its genome is critical to enhancing the growth and management of this global resource, and salmonids in general, with sustainability.
The ICSASG was established in 2009 to oversee and provide funding for the effort to sequence the genome of Atlantic salmon. The ICSASG is comprised of public and private member organizations and aquaculture industries from Canada, Chile and Norway.
The goal of the ICSASG collaboration has been to produce a genome sequence that:
- Identifies and physically maps all of the genes in the Atlantic salmon genome
- Acts as a reference sequence for the genomes of other salmonids (e.g., Pacific salmon and rainbow trout) and more distantly related fish (e.g., smelt and pike)
Looking forward to seeing you all in Puerto Varas, Chile next April!
